Abstract:
The article examines the interpellation activity of female deputies in the Legislative Sejm (1919–1922) as an important area of their parliamentary activity. The aim of the study was to conduct a quantitative and qualitative analysis of parliamentary interpellations and to determine the relationship between the issues raised and the previous social, organizational, and political experience of the female parliamentarians. The source base consisted of the Stenographic Reports of the Legislative Sejm (nos. 1–342), texts of interpellations, other parliamentary prints, and archival materials from the Presidium of the Council of Ministers in Warsaw (1917–1939), preserved in the Central Archives of Modern Records in Warsaw.
The analysis demonstrated a clear differentiation in the interpellation activity of female deputies and revealed a relationship between their previous organizational and political experience and the scale of their parliamentary activity. The interpellations focused primarily on social, educational, welfare-related issues, and matters concerning the situation of women and children. However, they also addressed questions related to the functioning of state administration, food supply, public security, protection of public property, and abuses of power. An important aspect of the study was also the assessment of the effectiveness of these parliamentary initiatives.
